A lesson in resilience

The next time I need an example for my students of what it means to be resilient, I will tell them about a little company in North Collins, NY…

Despite their incredible loss Thursday, Timberbuilt wasted no time finding a place to set up and get back to work. By Friday morning – less than 24 hours after they shared the news about the fire that destroyed their shop and office – they announced they had already relocated nearby:

Saturday morning brought a call from Adam L. telling us they expect to receive new timbers for our project this Wednesday or Thursday and they’ll begin cutting them right away.

It sounds like it’s all hands on deck to get the four projects they had on the go back on track. Adam doesn’t think our build will be held up by more than a couple of weeks. That is not what we expected at all! On Thursday, we were guessing at how long it would be before we’d be moving forward on our main structure; many months seemed realistic.

Needless to say, John and I are thrilled and any thoughts of taking a March Break vacation to lick our wounds disappeared as quickly as they came. If everything falls into place as Adam predicts, March 14 will mark the first week of our build!

It’s very likely the challenges I listed in my previous post will all be non-issues, other than our accommodations. All along we’ve figured our Aug. 1 deadline would be tight, so it’s a really good bet now we won’t make it. But my mom and stepfather have generously offered to have us stay with them until we’re ready to move into our place.

I’m so happy to say all is well and we get more excited every day about our new home.
