About me

In an attempt to write this section of my blog perfectly, I sought the help of the WordPress pros and found “About Page 101: Making Them Care.” I’ve been stuck for a couple of months now after trying to follow the steps suggested there and getting nowhere satisfying. Talk about walking straight into the very trap I’m trying to escape…

So, all of my rule-following and false starts aside, this blog is about me trying to get on with living the life I believe I am meant to by accomplishing the many things I sincerely care about, the things I allow to sit undone in the lands of One Day and I Really Should because I fear they won’t turn out perfectly.

I have a range of familiar excuses disguised as somewhat legitimate reasons for not visiting these distant lands. I’m busy. My job exhausts me. It’s hard to balance everything. Blah. Blah. Blah. An accomplished writer I admire once told me everyone can find an extra hour a day to write. I thought at the time: you’ve obviously never been a teacher. But since then, I’ve noticed the things I can, and often do, make time for: professional courses; television; complaining about a range of irritants, including our TV service; reading; daydreaming about the things I’d like to be doing, and even cooking vegan and gluten-free meals (which tend to take me at least double the time noted in the cookbook, likely due to the problem I’m addressing here).

Now that I’ve reached the end of this terrifying task (according to the WordPress folks, “Without an About page, you’re nobody.”), I’d like to introduce myself: Kelly McDougall, 39-year-old recovering perfectionist. I hope you enjoy my ramblings and perhaps find something for yourself here too.
